A Christmas Goose

"Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
If you haven't got a penny, a ha'penny will do
If you haven't got a ha'penny,
then God bless you!

Print out this silly little goose to waddle over your table.

Christmas is a wonderful time to say thank you to people who do small kindnesses. Print out these cards to give to people that might like a cheery thank you.

Time was with most of us, when Christmas Day, encircling all our limited world like a magic ring, left nothing out for us to miss or seek; bound together all our home enjoyments, affections, and hopes; grouped everything and everyone round the Christmas fire, and make the little picture shining in our bright young eyes, complete. ~ Charles Dickens

Hello and hello!

I had the most delicious thought this morning. It was six-o-clock, cold and dark and my fuzzy brain started thinking about having to get up, get the boy to school and a hundred other things... when in a flash I realized that it was not only Saturday but the first day of Christmas Vacation. And I was very, very content, pulled the covers over my head and snuggled back into sleep.

I've been spinning in a whirl of busy activity these last few weeks with pleasant things like creating illustrations for a new book proposal and finishing up the last bits of the book of strange animals that I have been working on all year for Scholastic.

Next month I'm hoping to do a series of paper toys for thetoymaker.com, visiting a different country every month. Where should I visit first?

Best thoughts and all my love,

Were I a philosopher, I should write a philosophy of toys,

showing that nothing else in life need to be taken seriously,

and that Christmas Day in the company of children

is one of the few occasions on which men become entirely alive. ~ Robert Lynd
