A
friend of mine asked me if a nine-year-old girl who was
clever would like my new book, A Year In The Secret
Garden.
I
replied it depends... "Is she the kind of kid that
likes to make and do, read stories and likes history,
crafts and the outdoors? Is she more into texting and
computer games or does she like old fashioned recipes
and helping plants grow?"
My
wonderful friend Valarie Budayr, who created the book
with me, says that A Year In The Secret Garden
is a great read-aloud book. Reading the book to boys and
girls, as young as five-years-old, promotes empathy for
the characters in the story, especially Colin's illness
and Mary's loneliness.
So
if you know families who would like a way to spend more
time together making things and enjoying the wonders of
nature then tell them about A Year In The Secret Garden.
It would be a grand favor.
And
if The Secret Garden was one of your favorite
stories growing up, treat yourself to a copy. I hope you
like it!
