Have
you ever noticed that fairy tales don't start with "And
they lived happily ever after"? They start with "Once
upon a time" and follow plucky heroes on a journey, be
it a little tailor, a goose girl or children lost in the woods.
That journey may be full of ogres to fight, or impossible
quests to solve, but by the last page, fairy tales tell us
that ordinary souls who persevere are changed in some way.
Sometimes
fairy tales are cautionary, telling us not to stray off the
path, not to talk to strangers or be too greedy. Stories tell
us how to solve life's problems, to beware of evil trolls
and how to be brave.
This
busy summer finds us living happily, and the only dragon infesting
our garden just might be a squirrel. I do hope that you are
having lots of magical adventures with a good dose of "happily
ever after" too.
